Reagan-Appointed Prosecutor Speaks Out in Favor of Medical Marijuana

Another Drug Warrior Comes Around

Mel McDonald, a Mormon and Republican former prosecutor in Arizona, is speaking out in favor of medical marijuana reform. The self-described “leader in the drug wars of the 1980s” did a complete 180 after he discovered that marijuana effectively treated the nausea of his chronically ill son who has epilepsy. He wasn’t able to swallow food without the drug’s anti-emetic effects.

Recently McDonald went on Huffington Post to explain that “You don’t have to be driving a skateboard or riding a skateboard with long hair to be a hippy to realize that there are genuine people that need this, and people that take efforts to block it to people that are sick is just wrong.”

Indeed, Mel McDonald is living proof of such a proposition.

“Marijuana is the one plant out there that solves enormous problems for people, with not only a seizure disorder like my son, but with cancer and other ailments.”
