Cannabis & Tech Meet in SF at New West Summit
This weekend will see the San Francisco waterfront host the premier global gathering of cannabis technology minds at New West Summit.
Now in its second installment, New West Summit looks to expand on the progress made last year. At a time when tech had already become a major force in the industry, New West corralled the stakeholders from the event’s varying technology sub-sections. This broad niche of sorts brought rave reviews from participants and coverage from Forbes, Rolling Stone and many other publications.
This year organizers will bump up the entrepreneurial-star power. Headlining the ticket on Saturday, Oct. 15 live from Necker Island, Virgin CEO Sir Richard Branson will kick off the keynote address in tropical style. Following Branson will be tech industry force Dave Morin. Morin has made the rounds with the likes of Apple, Eventbrite, and AngelList. Morin also serves on the board of the recently renovated San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. On Friday Susan Bennett, the voice of Siri, will give her thoughts on the evolution of the cannabis technology space.
“It’s been amazing to see the growth from our inaugural New West Summit to this 2.0 event. We’ve doubled our exhibitors and sold out of space weeks before the event. Our attendee ticket sales are looking to be double last year’s as well,” said New West Summit’s Jim McAlpine. “I think this is due to the ever increasing interest in this great industry and having people like Richard Branson and the voice of Siri as main speakers has helped gain a lot of press and take New West to the mainstream. We are a tech event first that just so happens to be about cannabis.”
Past the big names in general, the rest of the weekend will consist of picking the leading minds in cannabis tech. This year’s sponsors include New Frontier Data, Steep Hill Lab and Colorado Greenhouse artificial intelligence outfit Grownetics.
While already America’s fastest growing industry, there’s no question that California’s upcoming election could propel the sector to massive new heights. Prime to carve their place in this reality are the many ancillary cannabis services that will be present at New West Summit. From lab testing to ensure a safe product for consumers, to the point of sale systems required to be in compliance with various new and expanding state regulations, if someone is working on the most cutting edge of cannabis tech they’ll be in San Francisco this weekend.
