Dream Job: Get Paid $50 per Hour to Smoke Marijuana

The cannabis industry has plenty of employment opportunities available that the average cannabis user often dreams about getting in hopes that they can smoke copious amounts of marijuana while collecting a paycheck. But sadly, most bud trimmers and budtenders aren’t exactly allowed to get red-eyed and ripped on the clock. Dig a little deeper into the personnel requests of some cannabis firms, however, and there are positions available in some markets in which regular, everyday pot enthusiasts can be paid a modest monthly salary to kick back and get high.

Toronto-based AHLOT is one of those companies presently hiring a team of cannabis connoisseurs to test their products. A report from Bloomberg indicates that the firm will pay five people $50 per hour to sample and review various strains of weed.

The lucky bunch aptly referred to as the Cannabis Curation Committee, will also receive a $200 expense account, which presumably has been allotted for the surplus of food, snacks and tasty beverages that these folks are destined to consume when the munchies kick in.

This job goes beyond just sitting in a room smoking a bunch of weed with a group of co-workers. AHLOT is searching for “expert-level connoisseurs who have lived with cannabis long enough to understand and express the nuances that distinguish one strain from another.”

Responsibilities include providing the company with regular feedback on various strains through an online submission system. The crew will also be required to write social media posts about the strains, participate in video segments and attend company events. To be selected for this position is to become an ambassador for the AHLOT brand.

Although several hundred bucks a month isn’t the kind of money worth leaving a full-time job for, this position should be considered more of a side hustle than a replacement gig. It is not necessary for interested candidates to leave their current place of employment to be part of the team. The job description shows that “a typical time commitment will be between 1 and 3 hours per week, not exceeding 12 hours per month.”

This means AHLOT duties can be fit in during that time away from the 9-to-5 grind when, let’s face it, most of you were going to be smoking weed anyway. Only this way, there is no need to drive an Uber or deliver pizzas for supplemental income. Yet, it is distinctly possible that someone could see more Uber and pizza delivery drivers upon accepting this position.

A qualified candidate must be at least 19-years-old and have “a self-avowed interest in cannabis together with the ability to distinguish the often nuanced characteristics of different strains is desirable,” the company said. “Evaluation and reporting will include visual, factory and tactile examination of samples, and as such a deep familiarity with the plant is important.”

AHLOT wants people to know that this is not fake news. It insists that hiring people to conduct an “in-depth evaluation of strains” is essential to “helping people choose products with intelligence.”

The only downside to the job, as far as we can tell, is the company will only consider Canadians citizens.

Interested candidates have until October 17 to apply.

After a review by Team AHLOT those who make the second round of the application process will be scheduled for a face-to-face interview or a video conference. Those cannabis connoisseurs who make the cut will start work November 17, 2018.
