Essential Strains of Labor Day

The day dedicated to our country’s working class heroes and the unofficial end of summer has arrived. Here are our top picks for great cannabis strains this Labor Day.

As we celebrate organized labor and what it’s done for all Americans, it is also now more deeply aligned with the cannabis industry as a whole than ever before. The United Food and Commercial Workers Union has spent years working to organize in California’s cannabis industry personnel. Recently they signed another deal to unionize one of the two medical marijuana licensees in Minnesota.

Celebrate all the progress we’ve made with these Labor Day picks:

Gas Leak

The new pheno of Gas Leak starting to make inroads in the San Francisco Bay Area is definitely a great note to end your vacation on. We sampled the Foxworthy Farms cultivated destroyer and were impressed as soon as we got our nose on it. It was grown in a collaboration with the popular extract artists and cultivators over at Candystripe Concentrates who oversaw the propagation of the pheno. The genetic line on it is quite a spectacle, a pairing of the always infamous Chem 91 and a stabilizing Chemdawg male done by South Fork Seed Collective. The end result is something only true high-end genetics can hope to compete with. It’s easily reminiscent of some of the best OG and Sour Diesels you’ve ever seen. Keep an eye out for Gas Leak to blow up in the not too distant future.

Zookies

While most folks never have to worry about the structural integrity of their trophy case, the growers at Alienlabs refuse to live that after taking home a podium spot in every major California pot contest except for the Emerald Cup. Their Zookies drops are currently one of the more hyped events on the sesh scene in California’s state capital Sacramento. Zookies is a cross from the trademark war embattled “GG4” and Animal Cookies. GG4, of course, won the Cannabis Now NCIA Mini Cannabis Championship earlier this summer. Animal Cookies was one of the first Cookie variations seen early in the decade. Many thought it to be a stray bag seed but it was generally banging. You might be lucky and score some soon.

Some #zookies from @alienlabs_ for this mornings wake and bake 🔥

Sundae Driver

While Mimosa took home the champion of summer award with its #26 pheno taking first place at California mega-festival Chalice, the Jungle Boy’s had plenty of hits this summer and we really enjoyed their Sundae Driver. We’re not the only ones, The Smoker’s Club reported on an Instagram auction where a pack of the Cannarado Genetics strain went for over $2,000. According to Ivan from the Jungle Boys, Sundae Driver was one of the most productive propagation runs the famed LA phenotype hunters have ever done. You’ll have to wait for later this fall in Cannabis Now Magazine to get the whole story though.
