The Mile High City Celebrates Legal Marijuana: 4/20 Events in Denver
The first 4/20 holiday since recreational marijuana became legal in Colorado is going to be a big hit. A monster hit in fact. Denver will certainly be the epicenter in Colorado for cannabis events and with so many things going on you’ll certainly find something to toke for.
Traveling to Denver? Here is a rundown of the events taking place this week:
(Wednesday 4/16 – Sunday 4/18. The Denver Mart, Denver Mart, 451 E 58th Ave, Denver)
The BIG INDUSTRY SHOW is a business to business trade show for the smoke shop industry. The first two days are for vendors only, but Friday is open to the public. This is a great event for anyone who wants to learn more about the emerging cannabis industry!
(Thursday 4/17, 8p.m. The Oriental Theatre, 4335 W 44th Ave, Denver)
Start the weekend off right with guaranteed laughs at Andy Haynes’s Midnight Run at the Oriental Theater. Hayne’s has been featured on Comedy Central and Jimmy Fallon and has created a cannabis-themed show. Haynes is reported to get “nice and ripped” before going onstage. The show begins at 8 p.m.
(Friday-Sunday 4/18-4/20, Darkstar Lounge, 1630 Federal Blvd, Denver)
Grassroots California, a well-known industry clothing company is celebrating their five-year anniversary in style. Dabroots is a three-day music festival in Denver, hosting a notable lineup, most memorable will be their headliner Nappy Roots. The kick-off party begins on Friday. The festival will host a mix of mostly electronic and reggae music but dabbles in folk as well. Vendors selling glass, clothing, jewelry and hats will surely be in attendance and glass blowing demonstrations are scheduled throughout the weekend.
The Denver 420 Rally
(Saturday-Sunday, Civic Center Park, 101 W 14th Ave, Denver)
According to the official site: the Denver 420 Rally will have a much different vibe than in the past. The underground movement that began in the late seventies has become a leading voice for change and promises to attract users and activists of all stripes and backgrounds.
Amendment 64 was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Celebrate this collective achievement with a smile on your face and a buzz in your heart. In downtown at the Civic Center Park – the two-day event boasts Wyclef Jean, B.O.B. and the Expendables in the lineup. This outdoor event has more of a family-friendly feel than most other 4/20 events this weekend. In addition to the typical pro-cannabis t-shirt and accessories vendors, there will be food and art installations from local Colorado artists.
(Saturday-Sunday, 4/19-4/20, Denver Mart, 451 E 58th Ave, Denver)
The infamous Cannabis Cup will set up shop at the Denver Mart this year just north of downtown Denver. The two-day event boasts several forms of entertainment including political and instructional discussions with topics such as “Won’t Someone Think About The Children?” As the legalization and medicalization of marijuana increase, the challenges for pot smoking parents will increase as well.” and “The Art of Edibles” Learn how to create potent, consistent cannabis-infused foods from leaders in the industry.” A cannabis-centric yoga class, glass-blowing demonstrations and munchie-satisfying food vendors will entertain between musical guests (whom are not in short supply this year) Cannabis Cup has brought Ice-Cube for the Friday kick off party and Slightly Stoopid and Mac Miller to the Red Rocks. Certain tickets also include passes to Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa at the Red Rocks.
Finally, guests may join the judging by taking the ‘Cannabis Freedom Trail.’ Visit participating dispensaries to sample the strains they have entered. On Sunday, attendees can vote on their favorite. The winning dispensary will receive the ‘People’s Cup.’
(Sunday 4/20, 11AM, Mystery Location, Denver)
The inaugural Edible Events: 420 Brunch is shrouded in mystery. The exact location is undisclosed, most likely to keep the “quaint brunch venue in Historic Baker Street” from being overrun. The Menu offers freshly made sweet pastries, decadent savory pastries, full service espresso bar, make your own Bloody Mary bar, mimosas topped with freshly squeezed juices and signature bacon sticks.
The promotion invites attendees to dress in comfortable Sunday morning attire, slippers welcome. Tickets are $95.
