Strain Review: Jack’d Strawberry Diesel

Our intrepid ganja chronnoisseur, Dragonfly, travels the world in search of the best cannabis and evaluates strains ranging from the popular and plentiful to the rare and exotic. She samples each strain in joints, glass bongs, vaporizers and bubblers, whenever available, taking careful notes of the smell, taste, and nuanced effects of each one. (photo by Dragonfly)

A rare connoisseur strain that combines the infamous Jack’s Cleaner with Super Strawberry Diesel, this hard-hitting sativa lays claim to some of the most highly-prized, award-winning strains in cannabis – Kyle Kushman’s Original Strawberry Cough, Sour Diesel, Northern Lights, Purple Haze, Lambsbread, Pluton, Larry OG, Jack the Ripper, and, of course, Jack Herer. An uplifting strain that smacks you up with motivating energy and knocks you down with giddy excitement, Jack’d is a strain that lives up to its name.

The Jack’d lineage looks like this: Strawberry Cough was mated with Sour Diesel, creating the Strawberry Diesel strain released by Reservoir Seeds, but no longer in production. When Strawberry Diesel met Larry OG, the couple gave birth to Super Strawberry Diesel. Eventually came the ingenious pairing of SSD with Jack’s Cleaner, and Jack’d Strawberry Diesel was born.

The smell: Jack’d Strawberry Diesel smells like the strong lemon pine that Jack’s Cleaner was named for, underscored with a tinge of peppery spice that enlivens the senses.

The dry hit: Take a pre-flame puff of a Jack’d joint and it’s like taking your mouth on a walk through the forest. Overwhelming pine flavor teases the tongue, giving way to strong OG in the aftertaste.

The taste: As one can imagine from such a flavorful pedigree, Jack’d Strawberry Diesel has all the elements to tempt the taste buds. Combining some of the most sought-after flavors in cannabis – fuel, kush, and lemon-pine – this strain delivers mouth-watering savor. Predominant pine with a lemon-citrus twist underlines the fuel highlights that coat the tongue and leave a faint aroma of cinnamon, whilst a vague, sweet fruitiness lingers in the bottom end.

The high: The high of Jack’d Strawberry Diesel is immediate and initially intense, but it quickly softens into a euphoric giddiness that is great for socializing. It won’t make you paranoid like some sativas can, and this is one of the few strains that will elevate you with every toke, no ceiling in sight.

Jack’d is perfect for brainstorming novel solutions to challenging situations. Since it inspires creativity, focused attention, and friendly social interaction, it also makes an excellent choice as a pre-board meeting or strategy session toke. This strain would also serve you well in an all-night cram session before an exam.

Medicinally, this munchie-inducing strain can kill anorexia in no time flat. It’s also reported to have pain-relieving and anti-anxiety properties. Uplifting and energetic, it counteracts lethargy and wipes out depression with ease.

The word: There’s a reason why they call it “Jack’d.” Few strains will have you on your feet and getting it done as quickly and energetically as this high-bred hybrid. Owing to its mostly sativa heritage, Jack’d will motivate you to achieve greatness (or at least get off the couch). And since it won’t slow you down, it’s the ideal breakfast joint. Jack’d Strawberry Diesel is what most people wish a cup of coffee could be – upbeat and energetic, but without the jittery nervousness that could have you playing piano too fast like that guy from Reefer Madness.
