The Best Events for 420 Fun in 2017

It seems like every year the celebration gets bigger — 420 is the ultimate cannabis holiday, and visiting any of the events on this list will make sure yours is highly enjoyable.

It’s the biggest holiday of the year for cannabis enthusiasts — the birthdate you wish you got on your driver’s license, the only holiday that can out green the Irish: yup, it’s almost 420.

This year’s 420 festivities (in many places) will be even more legalish than the quasi-legal grey area 420 celebrations of years past — what a time to be alive, my friends. More people than ever will will have the ability to use cannabis legally in the United States thanks to big wins last November.

If only we could could get the distributions mechanisms to catch up to the civil rights! Just kidding California… kind of.

We searched the country for some of the best smokeouts for 420 – here’s our roundup!

NorCal

San Rafael, California is the ancestral home of 420. There, a group of high school heroes founded a concept that would make it’s way to the extravagant parking lot parties of Grateful Dead shows and then further across America into its current status of international awareness.

San Francisco is now the truest mecca of 420, despite what others would claim. The locals there have crusaded for progress for decades and their 420 festivities and celebrations of cannabis are like no other.

This year, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park celebrates — not only its first 420 with cannabis being legal in California — but also the 50th anniversary of The Summer of Love. The park’s famous Hippie Hill is the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of what is sure to be one of the most proper 4:20 p.m. clouds the West Coast will have to offer.

This year will also mark the first time the city will be attempting to rein things in, specifically the trash problems that have plagued past years.

After going hard in the afternoon you can head downtown for Kevin Gates, Berner, Lil B, Jesse Royal, Young Dolph, Kool John and Rich the Kid at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

Berkeley’s old school clubs, CBCB and BPG, will be as hyphy as ever, and for evening activities head over to Monophonics at the UC Theatre or the 420 Party at the Starry Plough Pub.

Also in the East Bay, Oakland’s own Hood Incubator will be hosting its second annual 420 Community Gathering. Ticket sales will go to help the nonprofit increase the participation of people of color in the cannabis industry.

In ski country, things have thawed a bit from one of the best winters on record, and Tahoe Wellness with light it back up with their 7th annual Cannabis Cup.

In the state capital, longtime Cannabis Now contributor, Ngaio Bealum, brings the funny to the Sacramento Punchline for Extravaganja 2017. Get your tickets quick on this one for sure.

Cannabis Now will also be at Cannacon.

Specials shout out to some of the rotations that will be going down in the Emerald Triangle — we can only presume the insanity. For the rest of you who want to rage like a hill kid for the afternoon, head a couple hours North of San Francisco to Emerald Pharms in Hopland.

SoCal

Your best chance to smoke pot with a celebrity has to be at one of the various “Marijuana Oasis” events tagged along with Coachella this year: this marks the third year for the originator of the stoney extra-festival soirée the “Green Oasis,” which has seen multiple celebrities appearances, Kardashians included.

There will also be a ton of events going down in LA proper for the rest of us little people, so keep an eye out for special edition sesh parties and deals everywhere this month in OG Kush country.

Pacific Northwest

Head to Mount Tabor in Portland for all your sit in the grass and puff needs on Thursday; bring a picnic lunch, frisbee and sandals for maximum effect. There are plenty of events going on in the city also, including meet the grower potlucks and a Pottery Sesh.

The number one party in Seattle is definitely going to be 420 Fest, organized by the same folks who bring us the world’s largest cannabis gathering every year with Hempfest. You’ll be sure to see a who’s who of Washington’s finest heads and buds.

Elsewhere

Denver is going to go off as usual at Civic Center Park: this year features a bunch of acts leading up to the main event, including 2 Chainz at 4:20 p.m. Keep an eye out for the vendor village and make sure to reference the dry mountain buds. People can be touchy.

In Boston, the birthplace of America, they’re celebrating the city’s first legal 420 this year. For those in town, head over to the Common to celebrate with like minded heads at Mount Michael Malta. New England’s premier Cannabis Trade School and Weedmaps are also teaming up for the 420 Independence Gala at Northeastern Institute of Cannabis.

TELL US, where will you be on 420 this year?
