40 Under 40: Ross Lipson

Lipson’s cannabis tech company Dutchie is valued at $3.8 billion just five years after its launch.

Michigan native and serial entrepreneur Ross Lipson built one of Canada’s largest and most successful food delivery platforms in GrubCanada before selling the company in 2011.

Lipson then turned his attention to cannabis, where his impact would be even more profound.

Dutchie is the highest-flying software company in legal weed, with a $3.8 billion valuation just five years after the company’s launch. Dutchie assists dispensaries in putting their menus online as well as manufacture point-of-sale software: essentially cash registers for weed stores.

Lipson’s company isn’t a payment processor, per se, but rather an all-in-one platform that makes operating in the US legal cannabis industry easier for the tens of thousands of companies doing so.

“I believe that working to solve your customer’s biggest pain points and finding ways to deliver them more value is the ultimate driver of any business,” Lipson said.
