Colorado Announces Retail Marijuana Licensing Numbers

Update: As of Dec. 27 Denver has fully licensed 14 retail marijuana stores set to open Jan. 1. See a map of the approved stores here.

Colorado has approved 136 licenses for retail marijuana stores, a figure that does not represent how many may be open when sales become legal in the new year due to a duel licensing process requiring approval from both state and local municipalities.

According to a release issued Monday by the state’s Marijuana Enforcement Division, 348 retail cannabis licenses have been approved. This number includes the retail stores alongside 178 marijuana cultivation facilities, 31 product manufacturing facilities and three marijuana testing facilities.

Of these 102 retail stores have received state approval in Denver. The City and County of Denver, one of 25 municipalities that opted to begin transitioning into retail marijuana businesses on Jan. 1, 2014, has also released data on its retail cannabis licensing Monday. Denver’s figures state they have approved 42 retail marijuana businesses, a number that includes stores, grow facilities and infused product manufacturing. According to the Denver Post, only eight retail marijuana stores in Denver have cleared the city’s licensing process.

Licensed Retail Marijuana Stores as of Dec. 23, 2013
